WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL
Important information for the 2017-2018 school year
Dear Parents,
We wish you all the best for the new school year. We hope that you have all had a good holiday . Here at Socrates-Demosthenes, we are busy putting the last touches to the beginning of the school year. We have planned a year where your child’s primary and secondary education is at the center of our very existence.
Our newly developed strategic plan for the years 2017 to 2022, with medium- and long-term objectives, will gradually enter into force during this year. Our ultimate goal is to remain at the highest level for our students, your children, while working as efficiently as possible.
At Socrates-Demosthenes, our programs are constantly being upgraded and updated. We invest time and research in obtaining new materials, incorporating new technologies and improving our teaching methods. The optimization of our technological infrastructure (computers and the Internet in every classroom), and teacher training in technology remain a major goal. As such, we are continuing to implement our Technology Master Plan, which we have developed to achieve our goals in this area.
In the autumn envelope that your children will receive next week, we have attached many documents about our programs and activities. We invite you to familiarize yourself with these. In Socrates-Demosthenes, we offer the best possible education for your child in a rewarding environment, by better serving the needs of our families.
We have consolidated our complementary services. Educators and recovery periods will be available on all our campuses. Special assistance for learning will be provided to students who demonstrate the need.
Our Educational After-School Service (EASS), a child care program, is highly valued by our families. It is an extension of the pedagogical program, before or after classes, depending on the campus, and during the pedagogical days, with the same quality in the care, in a safe, educational and recreational environment for the students. Please refer to the EASS document in the envelope.
The school continues its ecological implication. Each campus will send most of its communications by email, saving on paper. We ask that you return your email address to us and sign the attached authorization for this purpose (see the Signatures and Authorizations leaflet).
The Socrates-Demosthenes website can be found at socdem.org. Always upgraded and updated, this trilingual site will be your source of valuable information about the school, its programs, activities, registration procedures and more. Have a look, you will not regret it.
After the remarkable success of our fifth trip to Greece last June, the ultimate Greek educational experience will once again be offered to this year’s graduating class. You will receive all details by email this fall. We hope that the 2018 version of this adventure will enter the history of school trips.
We are still very involved in the project of the Hellenic Community Complex Laval (a grouping of all our establishments in Laval in a central location). In addition, every effort will be made to ensure that our first high school is a great success this year and for generations to come.
On behalf of the administration of our School, teachers and support staff, we wish to warmly welcome all of our students and you their parents back to school Socrates- Demosthenes. We look forward to seeing the students again!
